Gear Inscription Guide

  • Gear Inscription is a feature which allows you to add a custom name, description and item icon to your existing gear.
  • The feature works through Gear Inscription items, which you fill with the desired information. You can then bind these items to your gear, unbind them from your gear, and rewrite them at will.
  • Currently, we allow weapons and armor pieces to be inscribed with custom inscriptions.
  • Gear inscription is fully automatic. Everything you request is instantly added, and there is no need to wait for a game update or anything else.

General information

Brief

  • Using the gear inscription system you can choose a custom name, name color, description & icon for any of your armors (top/bottom/boots/wrists/cape/helmet) and weapon. This information will be visible to you and all of the players that happen to view your gear in any way. Gear inscriptions can be rewritten and moved from one gear to another easily and for a cheap price. Gear inscriptions do not change the model of your gear. If you want to change the model of your gear, refer to the Gear Design Guide.
  • Gear inscriptions will not disappear when rerolling R8 weapons and armors. Gear inscription will disappear from your cape if you engrave it.

Gear Inscription Item

  • The Gear Inscription item is an item that holds a set of the aforementioned information (name/color/description/icon). In further text, we'll call this set of information an inscription.
  • It can be either clean, in which case it has no inscription attached to it, or used, in which case there's an existing inscription that's attached to the item.
  • Clean Gear Inscription items can be used to:
    • Create an inscription and attach it to the item.
    • Extract (remove) existing inscription from a piece of gear.
  • Used Gear Inscription items can be used to:
    • Bind the inscription attached to the item to a piece of gear.
    • Rewrite the inscription attached to the item.
  • The description of the item will tell you whether the item is currently used or clean. You can press Shift while hovering over the inscription item in order to check the inscription attached to it.
  • Gear Inscription Items can be crafted at God's Giving for 5 x Epic Point. They are tradeable. They can not be converted back into Epic Points.

Gear Inscription Stone

  • Gear inscription stone is an item that's used for creating a new inscription that will be attached to a clean Gear Inscription item.
  • They can be crafted at God's Giving for 40 x Epic Point. They are tradeable. They can not be converted back into Epic Points.

Requesting a new inscription

  • Needed items
    • Gear Inscription Stone (1)
    • Gear Inscription (1)

  • Starting steps
    • Open the EPW Hub Menu
    • Press the 'Gear Inscription' button to open the Gear Inscription Menu
    • In this menu you can choose the name, its color, description & the item icon that will be bound to this inscription. You can also preview all of these on a gear piece of your choosing.
    • Below is the explanation of how to properly fill the information for each field.

  • Name
    • The 'Name' field is where you insert the name of the gear.
    • The name can have a maximum length of 30 characters.
    • Characters '^' and '&' are not allowed.
    • The name must follow the general rules that prohibit profanity, insulting or offensive words and expressions, imitations or other behaviour to spite other players or factions. You can refer to EPW Rules 3.1 & 3.2 for full details. Punishment for breaking any of these rules will result in the removal of the gear inscription and a possible ban for multiple offenses.
    • Everything else is allowed. To check whether a character is supported by the font used for the gear name, preview the name by referring to the 'Preview Item' instructions below.

  • Name color
    • Next to the 'Name' field, denoted by a hashtag, is the field where you can insert a color that the name of your gear will have.
    • Find a color of your liking and insert its hex code into the field. To find the hex code of a color, you can refer to https://www.color-hex.com/.
    • Hex codes should be inserted without a hashtag.
    • All colors are allowed, but keep in mind that some colors will be hardly visible because of the background color of the gear info tooltip.

  • Description
    • The 'Description' field is where you can insert a description that your gear will have.
    • The description should contain text along with the color tags that define how the text that comes after them will be colored.
    • A color tag contains a hashtag followed by the hex code of the color. For example, '#FF0000' is a color tag that defines that the text that follows after the tag should be colored in red. Check the video above in order to better understand how the color tags work.
    • Each line of text can have a maximum width of 60 characters excluding spaces. Each space counts as half a character. This way you can easily center the lines of your description without exceeding the character limit. Color tags are not included in the character count.
    • Description text can have a maximum of 20 lines.
    • Description text needs to follow the same rules as the gear name. Punishment for breaking the rules is the same as for the gear name violations.
    • If you want to insert an actual hashtag into your description, type '##'. These two will be converted into a single hashtag.

  • Icon ID
    • The 'Icon ID' field is where you can choose an icon that your gear will have when displayed as an item. This includes the display within your inventory, trading dialog, player info window and others.
    • Icon ID should be a number that denotes the ID of the icon that you would like to have as a part of this inscription.
    • There are two ways to find an ID for a certain icon:
      • http://pwdatabase.com. Find the item that has the icon that you want to take, and copy the number that's located at the end of the URL. To better understand how this works, refer to the video above.
      • http://ecatomb.epicpw.com/icons.html. Find the icon that you like, click on it, and copy the ID in-game.
    • Not all IDs will evaluate to an icon. If you choose an invalid item ID, an error message will pop up letting you know about it. Furthermore, the database that's located at http://pwdatabase.com is not identical to ours. This means that some items that exist on http://pwdatabase.com will not exist in our database, while some others will have different icons.
    • If you want to use an icon that exists only in EPW, you can contact me to obtain the ID of this icon.

  • Preview Item
    • The 'Preview Item' slot is where you drag a piece of gear in order to preview the other stuff you're filling out. You can drag an arbitrary weapon or an armor to this slot.
    • Again, the 'Preview Item' slot is only for previewing purposes. You are not actually attaching any of the information you're filling out to this gear.

  • Gear inscription
    • The 'Gear Inscription' slot is where you should drag your Gear Inscription item once you're ready to request a new inscription.

  • Confirm
    • Once you like what you see when previewing the information you've filled in, you can press Confirm.
    • If something has not been filled in properly, you will not be able to press the button and an appropriate message will be shown in the window.
    • Once you confirm your choices, you will be disconnected from the server in order for the server to attach all of the information to your Gear Inscription Item.
    • While the server is performing work on your character, you won't be able to login. You will be able to reach the character selection screen, but choosing the "locked" character will disconnect you instantly. Please allow up to 1 minute for the server to finish its work.
    • After you login, you should see a message in the chat, specifying that your request has completed successfully. If something went wrong, an error message will show up instead.
    • If the request succeeded, your Gear Inscription Item should now display as 'Used'.
    • If you want to bind this inscription to a piece of gear now, do so by following the instructions at Binding an inscription.

  • Needed items
    • Gear Inscription (1) with an existing inscription attached to it

  • Starting steps
    • Open the EPW Hub Menu
    • Press the 'Bind Gear Addon' button to open the Addon Binding menu.
    • In this menu you can select a piece of gear that you want to bind the inscription to, along with the Gear Inscription item with the inscription attached.

  • Gear
    • The Gear slot is where you should drag the gear that you want to bind the inscription to. This is the gear that will have its name, name color, description and icon changed by the inscription you're binding.
    • If the gear already has a gear inscription, you will be allowed to bind a new one. The old one will be lost and you will not be able to recover it though.
    • All armors and weapons are allowed.
  • Addon
    • The Addon slot is where you should drag the Gear Inscription item that has an inscription attached to it. This will attach the inscription to the gear you dragged in the Gear slot.
    • Obviously the Gear Inscription item you drag must have an inscription attached to it (not a clean item).
    • Once you drag the inscription item onto the slot, the gear you've attached to the Gear slot will change into what it would like with the addon attached. This is just a preview. To actually bind the inscription, you need to press 'Confirm'.

  • Confirm
    • Once you're ready to bind the inscription to the gear, press 'Confirm'.
    • This will "transfer" the inscription that's attached to the Gear Inscription item to your gear and remove the Gear Inscription item from your inventory.
    • Once you confirm your choices, you will be disconnected from the server in order for the server to bind the inscription to your gear.
    • If the request succeeded, you should see your gear's name, color, description & icon changed.

F.A.Q.

  • Q: I just want a custom weapon, what is this new stuff?
  • A: Name/description/icon and model components of a custom weapon are now split. To customize the former, refer below to Requesting a new inscription. To customize the model, jump over to the Gear Design Guide topic, under Claiming a registered model. In general, everything remains pretty much the same, except you will be able to obtain the custom name/description/icon instantly and make it yourself instead of having to wait for an update.

  • Q: I want to rewrite my custom weapon that I obtained before the new system. How do I do that?
  • A: First you'll need a clean Gear Inscription item that you can obtain at God's Giving. Use this item to extract the inscription from your custom weapon. Follow up by rewriting the inscription and re-binding it to the weapon. All of this is explained in more detail under Unbinding an existing inscription and  Rewriting an existing inscription. To rewrite the weapon's model, refer to Rewriting an existing gear design.

  • Q: I want to transfer my custom weapon that I obtained before the new system. How do I do that?
  • A: The process is the same as the rewriting process explained above. The only difference is that, instead of re-binding the inscription to the original weapon, you now bind it to the other weapon.

  • Q: I'm trying to extract an inscription from my old custom weapon but the Confirm button is grayed out.
  • A: This is most likely happening because your old custom weapon was not converted properly when we switched to the new system. Please make a post on helpdesk with a screenshot of the custom weapon and it will be converted manually by me.

  • Q: How do the prices compare to the old system?
  • A:
    • New Custom Weapon
      • Old system -> 150 x Epic Point for Inscription + Model
      • New system -> 1 x Gear Inscription + 1 x Gear Inscription Stone = 45 x Epic Point for a new inscription
      • New system -> 1 x Gear Design + 1 x Gear Design Stone = 105 x Epic Point for a new gear design
    • Custom Weapon Rewrite
      • Old system -> 3 x Rewrite Stone = 15 x Epic Point
      • New system -> 1 x Gear Inscription = 5 x Epic Point to rewrite an inscription
      • New system -> 1 x Gear Design + 1 x Rewrite Stone = 10 x Epic Point to rewrite a design
    • Custom Weapon Transfer
      • Old system -> 1 x Rewrite Stone = 5 x Epic Point except for Untradeable -> Tradeable transfers
      • Old system -> 3 x Rewrite Stone = 15 x Epic Point for Untradeable -> Tradeable transfers
      • New system -> 1 x Gear Inscription = 5 x Epic Point for inscription transfers
      • New system -> 1 x Gear Design = 5 x Epic Point for design transfers
