Gear Design Guide
Gear Design is a feature which allows you edit the way your gear looks in-game.
The feature works through Gear Design items, which you attach a custom gear model to. After you have a Gear Design item with a model attached to it, you can bind the item to existing gear, unbind it after it's bound, and attach a different custom model onto it.
Custom gear models can be requested at the Custom Models board. You request a custom model, wait for it to be reviewed and added to the game in an update, and later attach it to a Gear Design item by using a key that you're given.
Currently, we allow only weapons to have a custom gear design.
Gear design is fully automatic. Even though adding a custom model requires an approval and a game to be updated, once the model is in the game, you can attach it to a Gear Design item and do everything else automatically.

General information
Brief
Using the gear design system you can choose a custom model for your weapon. This will change the way your weapon looks in-game, but will not change the way it looks when viewed as an item. The model will be visible to you and all of the players that look at your character. Gear designs can be rewritten and moved from one gear to another easily and for a cheap price. Gear designs do not change the name, name color, description and icon of the weapon item. If you want to change these, refer to the
Gear Inscription Guide
.
Custom models are requested at the Custom Model Board,
here
. You need to make a post on the board, providing all of the needed information, and wait for the information to be reviewed and for the model to be added to the game in an update. When the model is added to the game, you will be given a model key that you can use to attach the custom model to a Gear Design item.
Custom models have three components:
Model Key
--> This is a key that you use when claiming a requested custom model, and that you can later use to preview the model, as described in detail below.
Model Type
--> Unique or Shared
Unique --> Unique custom models can only be bound to one piece of gear. When you bind a Gear Design item containing a unique custom model to a gear, the Gear Design item disappears.
Gear design items that contain unique custom models can be used to rewrite a custom model with another unique model.
Shared --> Shared custom models can be bound to multiple pieces of gear (Max: 5). When you bind a Gear Design item containing a shared custom model to a gear, the Gear Design item disappears.
Gear design items that contain shared custom models can only be rewritten with other shared models.
Model Template
--> This is a type of the custom model which defines which gears it can be bound to. Currently, since we only allow weapons, the template will tell you what kind of weapon the model represents. These can be Sword, Dual Axes, Glaive, Saber etc.
Custom models can not be bound to incompatible weapons.
For example, you will not be able to bind a custom model with a 'Daggers' template to a Glaive weapon. At the bottom of this post you can find the list of model template groups.
Gear designs attached to the weapons will not disappear when rerolling R8 weapons.
Gear Design Item
The Gear Design item is an item that can have a custom model attached to it. You can then bind this item to a gear that you like, which will attach the custom model to the gear.
It can be either clean, in which case it has no model attached to it, or used, in which case it's already filled with a custom model.
Clean Gear Design items can be used to:
Claim a requested custom model.
Extract (remove) an existing custom model from a piece of gear.
Used Gear Design items can be used to:
Bind the custom model attached to the item to a piece of gear.
Rewrite the custom model attached to the item.
The description of the item will tell you whether the item is currently used or clean. You'll also be able to see the information about the custom model that's currently attached to the item.
Gear Design items can be crafted at God's Giving for 5 x Epic Point. They are tradeable. They can not be converted back into Epic Points.
Gear Design Stone
Gear design stone is an item that's used for claiming a custom model that you've requested, that will then be attached to a clean Gear Inscription item.
They can be crafted at God's Giving for 100 x Epic Point. They are tradeable. They can not be converted back into Epic Points.
Magic Weapons -> Magic Sword | Glaive | Pataka | Wand
Sword -> Long Sword | Blade | Sword | Dual Swords | Dual Blades | Dual Edges
Polearm -> Pike | Poleblade | Staff | Club
Axes & Hammers -> Poleaxe | Polehammer | Dual Axes | Dual Hammers
Ranged -> Bow | Crossbow | Slingshot
Fists -> Fist | Claw
Daggers -> Daggers
Spheres -> Spheres
Saber -> Saber
Scythe -> Scythe

Gear Design (1)
Starting steps
Open the EPW Hub Menu
Press the 'Gear Design' button to open the Gear Design Menu
In this menu you can preview custom models using their keys, claim the custom models you've requested at the Custom Model Board, as well as duplicate shared models that have not reached the maximum amount of copies.
Claiming a custom model attaches the custom model to the Gear Design item.
Custom Model Key
Requested Model
The 'Custom Model Key' field is where you need to insert a model key that has been provided to you by the developer after your custom model is approved and added to the game.
You can claim a requested custom model only once. After you claim it the first time, neither you nor anybody else will be able to use this key to claim a custom model.
Only the character which you've specified in your Custom Model request will be able to claim the Custom Model.
Shared Model
If you're duplicating a shared model, simply insert the model key that's shown on the Gear Design items or weapons that contain this model.
You can claim/duplicate a shared model for a maximum of five times.
Only the owner of the shared model (the character that performed the conversion from the unique model) will be able to claim/duplicate the model.
Gear Design
Drag a clean Gear Design item to the 'Gear Design' slot. This is the item where the custom model will be attached.
Preview
You can press the 'Preview' button to preview the custom model corresponding to the key you've inserted into the 'Custom Model Key' field.
You can preview all models, not only the ones that are yours.
You can find out the model's key in different ways:
If the model is not claimed yet, the key will be given to you in a reply to your custom model request.
If the model is currently attached to the Gear Design item, its key will be displayed in the item's description. See above for the example.
If the model is currently attached to a weapon, you can press Shift while hovering over the weapon to view the attached model's information.
Make sure you take off your weapon fashion before previewing the model.
If you don't, the weapon fashion will be previewed.
Confirm
Once you've inserted all of the information properly, press 'Confirm'.
Once you confirm your choices, you will be disconnected from the server in order for the server to attach the model to your Gear Design item. This will remove the Gear Design Stone from your inventory.
While the server is performing work on your character, you won't be able to login. You will be able to reach the character selection screen, but choosing the "locked" character will disconnect you instantly. Please allow up to 1 minute for the server to finish its work.
After you login, you should see a message in the chat, specifying that your request has completed successfully. If something went wrong, an error message will show up instead.
If the request succeeded, your Gear Design Item should now contain a description describing the custom model info.
If you want to bind this design to a piece of gear now, do so by following the instructions at
Binding a design
.

Binding a design
Needed items
Gear Design (1) with an existing custom model attached
Starting steps
Open the EPW Hub Menu
Press the 'Bind Gear Addon' button to open the Addon Binding menu.
In this menu you can select a piece of gear that you want to bind the custom model to, along with the Gear Design item with the model attached.
Gear
The Gear slot is where you should drag the gear that you want to bind the custom model to.
If the gear already has a custom model, you will be allowed to bind a new one.
The old one will be lost and you will not be able to recover it though.
Only weapons are allowed.
Addon
The Addon slot is where you should drag the Gear Design item that has a custom model attached to it. This will attach the model to the gear that you've dragged to the Gear slot.
Obviously the Gear Design item you drag must have a custom model attached to it (not a clean item).
Binding Rules:
Preview
Once you've dragged a Gear Design item into the Addon slot, you will be able to preview the custom model that's attached to the Gear Design item.
Make sure you take off your weapon fashion before previewing the model.
If you don't, the weapon fashion will be previewed.
Confirm
Once you're ready to bind the design to the gear, press
'Confirm'
.
This will "transfer" the custom model that's attached to the Gear Design item to your gear. If the custom model is unique, the Gear Design item will be removed from your inventory.
Once you confirm your choices, you will be disconnected from the server in order for the server to bind the design to your gear.
If the request succeeded, your gear's model should now be changed.

Unbinding a design
Needed items
Gear Design (1)
Starting steps
Open the EPW Hub Menu
Press the 'Unbind Gear Addon' button to open the Addon Binding menu.
In this menu you can extract a custom model from a gear which contains it into the clean Gear Design Item.
Gear
The Gear slot is where you should drag the gear that has a custom model that you want to extract.
The Gear must have an existing custom model attached to it.
Addon
The Addon slot is where you should drag a clean Gear Design item where the custom model will be extracted.
The Gear Design item that you drag here must be clean.
Confirm
Once you're ready to extract the custom model from the gear, press
'Confirm'
.
This will "transfer" the custom model that's attached to your gear to the Gear Design item that you selected. Your gear will lose its custom model.
Once you confirm your choices, you will be disconnected from the server in order for the server to bind the inscription to your gear.

Rewriting a design
Needed items
Gear Design (1) with a unique custom model attached
Rewrite Stone
(1)
Starting steps
Open the EPW Hub Menu
Press the 'Gear Design' button to open the Gear Design Menu.
Follow the same procedure as described in the instructions for
Claiming a requested model
.
Notes
The procedure is the same for rewriting the model, as it is for claiming it. That means that the new custom model must be requested through the Custom Model board, you can only claim it once and you can only claim it from the character you've specified in your post.
The difference is that you are now rewriting an existing custom model that's bound to the Gear Design item, instead of using a clean Gear Design item.
You can only rewrite unique custom models. That means that the Gear Design item you drag to the window must contain a unique custom model attached to it.
The custom model that's currently attached to the Gear Design item will no longer be usable. If you want to use it again, you'll have to request it again through the Custom Model Board.
Rewriting costs 1 Rewrite Stone.

Open the EPW Hub Menu
Press the 'Convert Model' button to open the Model Conversion Menu.
In this menu you are able to convert a unique custom model to a shared one using a Gear Design item that contains the unique model.

Gear Design
Drag the Gear design item containing a unique custom model to the Gear Design slot.
The model attached to the Gear Design item must be unique.

Once you're ready to convert the custom model, press
'Confirm'
.
This will make the custom model that's attached to the Gear Design item shared. This makes the model usable on multiple pieces of gear (Max: 5).
Once you confirm your choices, you will be disconnected from the server in order for the server to bind the inscription to your gear.

F.A.Q.
Q: I just want a custom weapon, what is this new stuff?
A:
Name/description/icon and model components of a custom weapon are now split. To customize the former, refer to the
Gear Inscription Guide
. To customize the model, check the Custom Model Board
.
Q: I want to rewrite my custom model that I obtained before the new system. How do I do that?
A:
First you'll need to make a post on the Custom Model Board where you provide all of the needed information. After the model is reviewed and added to the game, you will be able to claim it from the Gear Design Menu. Grab a clean Gear Design item that you can obtain at God's Giving. Use this item to extract the existing custom model from your custom weapon. Follow up by rewriting the custom model and re-binding it to the weapon. All of this is explained in more detail under
Unbinding a design
and
Rewriting a design.
To rewrite the weapon's inscription, refer to
the
Gear Inscription Guide
.
Q: I want to transfer my custom weapon's model that I obtained before the new system. How do I do that?
A
: The process is the same as the rewriting process explained above. The only difference is that you skip the rewriting part, and instead of re-binding the design to the original weapon, you now bind it to the other weapon.
Q: I'm trying to extract a model from my old custom weapon but the Confirm button is grayed out.
A
: This is most likely happening because your old custom weapon was not converted properly when we switched to the new system. Please make a post on helpdesk with a screenshot of the custom weapon and it will be converted manually by me.
Q: How do the prices compare to the old system?
A:
New Custom Weapon
Old system
->
150 x Epic Point
for Inscription + Model
New system
-> 1 x Gear Inscription + 1 x Gear Inscription Stone =
45 x Epic Point
for a new inscription
New system
-> 1 x Gear Design + 1 x Gear Design Stone =
105 x Epic Point
for a new gear design
Custom Weapon Rewrite
Old system
-> 3 x Rewrite Stone =
15 x Epic Point
New system
-> 1 x Gear Inscription =
5 x Epic Point
to rewrite an inscription
New system
-> 1 x Gear Design + 1 x Rewrite Stone =
10 x Epic Point
to rewrite a design
Custom Weapon Transfer
Old system
-> 1 x Rewrite Stone =
5 x Epic Point
except for Untradeable -> Tradeable transfers
Old system
-> 3 x Rewrite Stone =
15 x Epic Point
for Untradeable -> Tradeable transfers
New system
-> 1 x Gear Inscription =
5 x Epic Point
for inscription transfers
New system
-> 1 x Gear Design =
5 x Epic Point
for design transfers
