I tested with marrow so my mdef was high. Here's no marrow:
Full Buffs no marrow
6% rmdt : 3808
19% ele resist: 3866
Undine Strike
6% rmdt: 4874
19% ele resist: 4861
Self Buffs No Marrow
6% rmdt: 4874
19% ele resist: 4861
Undine Strike
6% rmdt: 6769
19% ele resist: 6543
The wizard's weapon is static damage so it always hits the same
So, if your mdef is lower than 24k then ele resist is better, if it's higher than 24k then rmdt is better.
Was looking for this. Unfortunately this test is problematic.
6% rmd vs 19% mag def is very unfair comparison, it should be 4% RMD vs 20% mag def or 2% RMD vs 10% mag def
What is apparent here, the lower defense is, the bigger benefit 10% mag/phys def gives, which is especially helpful in situations when we're self buffed or purged and this is when we're dying the most often
My thoughts after this test:
HA class
2 RPD vs 10 phys def: 2 RPD will always be better
2 RMD vs 10 mag def: 10 mag def will be better, except for WR which has magic sutra
LA class
2 RPD vs 10 phys def: 10 phys def should be at least as good when fully buffed and much better when self buffed
2 RMD vs 10 mag def: same like above
Arcane class
2 RPD vs 10 phys def: for classes that have own phys def buff, like mystic or wizard, i'd go with 2 RPD, otherwise 10 phys def should be better
2 RMD vs 10 phys def: 2 RMD will always be better
