Blue name feature? (Newbie question)

Hai guys, I'm new to EPW, and it's been years since I even touched PW in any form (left around 08 at level 26 as a cleric)

I saw something about being able to avoid PVP by keeping your name blue, but I don't really understand how it works.  Is it enabled by default or do I have to do something to turn it on/off?

You're blue named all the time until you change to white.. You've like a green "star" top right corner on your mini map top right on your game screen.. hold your mouse over it and read what it says.

Just keep in mind if you DO switch to PK mode, you must wait 10 hours to switch back.

Which isn't as bad as it sounds. Just stay in instances or leave your character logged in when you go to bed.
