I don't think it is impossible, simply because I've accidentally done something like this manually, was messing around with some UI files and I verified my files and when I logged in every buff/debuffed had a different icon. 

For example, archer's blazing arrow had the fire debuff icon (from fire legion), and mages water buff had wood pot icon etc etc etc.
