I know people here aren't stupid about protecting themselves, hell, we have military people here, but the object of reflection will be about how to keep a person safe, male or female.
1) Know your surroundings, remember them, map out safe spots you could hide, were you to be pursued. It is preferable to go to well lit area and scream to get attention. If you're in bum *** Nowhere, chances are you'll have to deal with your wits. Look around. Look for land lines for telephone or electrical, follow either way, but be quick as, if it's night, you will have the advantage. Hide behind hay bales or anything you can. Remember, higher ground is typically better, especially if you have collected some rocks and other things that can do damage. Got mace, get it ready, if you have a knife, unsheathe it. You will want arm ready to parry any attacks while you aim at the jugular of the assailant. Don't have either? It happens. Remember those rocks you were picking up, I am sure you picked up some pretty big ones. Aim at their ears, their temples, or the eyes. Yes, rocks really ARE effective weapons.
2)I'm not telling you to be paranoid, but please have situational awareness. Has that woman been look at you for an hour and when you spot her, she puts her head down. But pay attention to body movement and what is around you. Does she have a paper that she hasn't touched? Heightened awareness is crucial to your well being. As for females, never walk or run alone at any area, not matter what time of day. If you insist on walking or running, change your paths. If someone pulls up beside you, don't panic. Use what I call "dirty fighting" pick up whatever is on the ground and throw it in their eyes. This will stun them or irritate at the very least. This gives you an excellent chance to make sure they can't follow you. Kick their knee cap backwards so that the connective bone tissues are out of place . If they start to hobble towards you, find every heavy rock you can find and toss it at them. If you can, branches can sometimes do damage. Get to a place that has light and people, even if it is someone's house. Still following you? Persistence. Throw dirt and take a sharp branch and stab them in both eyes. Can't hit what you can't see. Call the cops, all is good.
3)In my state, you are allowed to drive to the nearest Police Station when the "policeman" behind you doesn't seem legit. Be sure to ensure you know your rights. This is Texas, everyone owns a ***ing gun.Park close to the windows so people can see you and start screaming to get attention.
4) Call it what you will, but follow your instinct and intuitions. This has saved my life as well as others.
5) If your doggy, kitty, or dragon hisses and barks, chances are that person is bad and you should avoid it.
6)Have some form of defense on your person, be it pepper spray, gun, or knife, again, make sure this is all done legally. You don't want to go there.
7)Finally, avoid places that you know have a notorious reputation. So, if you see Silent Hill Gtfo, man.
