Drawing tips

I don't know if i put this in the right section, if not, please move this thread! ^^

As the title says, i am making a drawing tip guide, and as well, kind of tutorial thingish part too ^^

So, lets start off with the items! There will be 2 sections c:

Digital

So, first off you might want to start off with the needs!

Of course, to start to draw you need a tablet!
There is no specific tablet sort you will need to buy, just keep in mind, a tablet is a tablet! I have a Sweex white tablet with is perfectly fine, but my pen is kinda broken, but that was just me being stupid, in my opining, it's a very good tablet and cheap too! I don't have experience with the other tablets so I really can't say what to buy or what not to buy.

Then you have to draw. Of course, you're not going to draw in MS Paint, that is only for pixel art. So, what program that is free will you use? The answer is simple, http://www.mediafire.com/download/mglnntzmlem/Portable+SAI.rar

No need to download winrar, just right click the file and press Extract.

and then you can start working! You can look at drawing sites like deviantArt for sai tutorials! (I suck at explaining  )

Always make a new layer:
Coloring -> Base color is 1 layer, then when you go and shade you make another layer, darker shade? another layer!
Lineart -> Hair -> 1 layer, skin -> another layer, etc...

Pick a thin brush/pen size and make smooth lines, make it look messy, that you can understand.
You can also sketch the colors, in other words, color in the sketch so you will have a better idea of how it will look like! Also, make new layers for this step.

Put your stabilizer to S-7. That makes your lines go slowly so you can decide better of how to make the lines. There is also a lineart layer but that one is confusing, you might wanna start with normal layers, when you ahve more experience with sai use your lineart layers.

Decide your colors. Put your stabilizer to 0. color in with the pen tool. When shading you can use whatever brush you want, pen, brush, marker, etc...

I shade with the pen tool and then i use blur, it gives me nice effects!

blending = 100%
Simple texture
No texture
Persistence : 39/40
Smooth pers. 100%

Qualty: 2
Edge hardness: 0
Min density: 0
Max density: 100%
Hard <-> soft: 100
I have dens, size and blend selected.

ALWAYS save your drawings as .sai files and .png. Never as .jpeg.

I will make a few color palettes soon so you can use it.


Traditional

Ok, so, i know many people don't know what traditional drawings are. Those are drawings that are made on paper. So, here are my tips.

there are 3 types of pencils, B, HB and H.

Lightest pencil. Useful for sketching and coloring, sometimes shading, depending on the colors you have used as base (Like, if u colored it, then you can use this as shade, but you won't notice it well)

Useful for darker coloring and shading. This is the most used pencil, pencils with no information on them (Like, without saying 1B, 2B, 4B, etc...) is always a HB pencil, and so are the mechanical pencils.

Useful for lineart, has the hardest pressure, also useful for the darkest shade.

That's the end of story for the normal pencils.

For this you might want to use coloring pencils. why? With markers you can't shade and make the nice pencil effects. You can also erase some colors for shine or for the mistakes you made. With pencils you can also make awesome light effects! Always color the base in lightly, but not TOO light. Then, when shading, press slightly harder and harder so it comes like a blurred drawing pencil.
There is no specific mark coloring pencil you want to buy, all pencils are good.

If you still want to use markers, there are special anime coloring markers but they are expensive. Those are called Copic Markers. Look on the internet for more info and tutorials.

The normal paper is an A4, that's the most prefered drawing paper. The bigger canvas is A3. The largest is A0, and that is a mix between all A's. I do not know any information about the B's because I have never been able to find those.

These are only my own tips, you can always do something else.

I disagree with your coloring thingy, it is possible to shade with markers and make nice effects with markers, as long as they are Alcohol Based markers, which allows you to blend and shade. I use both Prismacolor markers and Copic markers and they are amazing.  I don't agree with the coloring pencil statement about all pencils being good. I have never used any coloring pencils as good as Prismacolors, they blend so much easier and have a better looking coverage compared to everything else, but if you were saying that any coloring pencil's will get the job done, then I agree.

Look further, i have placed copic markers as a good way to color with markers. And i was talkin about normal markers, they can't really get the job done, and, with the pencils, they acn give amazing effects, if you dissagree then you haven't seen how i color, and i know other people that can color amazingly with color pencils. I don't have a tut, but I do have a good brush that works 
I like to use it as a sketching brush. I picked it up somewhere..

..I've got some other brushes as well, and a lot of textures that I got from a pack somewhere

It's a lot of brushes..
But I would suggest merging the lists and copy pasting in notepad if you don't want all your brushes to go..missing.
Edit: It's fine if you hate all your brushes though, XD.


Oh, and I thought up more. Umm:
I personally don't like linework layers that much since the edges are all round and such. I think regular layers are easier to use, and there are more possibilities.
One way to shade (sorry if my explanation is bad) is to make a base, and layer clip all layers above it when you color the parts..then put those into a folder, layer clip a layer above that, set that one to multiply, and shade. Oh, and highlights. And possibly retouching it in photoshop if you have it. It's a relatively lazy method though .^.
