no, he said Russian members, he is not saying that the people attacking this server are the same people you are hearing about in the news.  you are right in that regard, it's doubtful the Russians you are hearing about in the news would have any interest in attacking this server.  it's unlikely agatio looked at the news, saw something about russian ddos attacks, and instantly came to the conclusion that they were also attacking epw
