So, i never really thought about this much until a guildie asked me what the difference is between the two and i thought....hmm.  I really don't know.  I assumed they were the same in a way, but what is the difference?

Maybe cast time is like the lowest that it could be to channel the skill or....idk
I am.

Drag your mouse over any skill you have.

You will see three times:
channeling
casting
cooldown

Channeling is time needed to prepare the skill after you give command.
Can be reduced by -chan stats of gear and by some skills. During this
time you can see the channeling bar on screen.

Casting is time needed to actually cast it, after channeling is finished.
Can not be reduced.

Cooldown is the time that must pass before skill is allowed to use again.
Can not be reduced.

Channeling and casting both have animations, smoothly joined together.
Cooldown doesn't have.

But reconsider price. You might decide to lose.

Thanks guys.  I'm not a noob so MageTank's explanation was best for me lol  Just wasn't 100% sure about this.  Both explanations are good.

This can be a confusing topic. Channel is the time it takes for the animation of a skill to complete.

Just the opposite of this. Channeling is the time it takes for the skill/spell to "charge up", as shown by a blue meter that fills up. Casting time is the time AFTER the blue meter has filled and the character is doing the animation of the skill itself. For example, a barb casting invoke is Channeling the skill when you see the yellow light under him. You can cancel and interupt this, and stop him from invoking. How ever, once he is done channeling it, you will see the casting animation of the yellow buddha thing over his back. Even if you stun the barb at this point, the effect has already taken place, he is invoked. Casting is an animation only, such as the wizard actually throwing a fireball, or whatever. The game has already calculated the hit, damage, etc and is simply "going through the motions".

So Channel = The time it takes to cast a skill. Interuptable. Shown by a blue meter.
and Cast =Basically, just the time it takes before you can do something else (another skill, move, etc). Non-interuptable.
