Which program are you planning on using, and what kind of banner? Like is it text, picture, both?

Well if you'll use Photoshop to do text, just look up google by searching photoshop text tutorials. That's how I learned to do stuff I'm doing today.
Or you can just type out text and play with blending mode options by yourself
